Lonely No More

A tool to help people combat loneliness.

We’ll let people know when key people in their lives are lonely and would benefit from a call or visit.

Studies show that when we interact with others our happiness increases.

When our happiness is strong our physical well being is also enhanced.  When our well being is high, our productivity increases as does our life satisfaction. In other words we become better people and help others also to be the best version of themselves.

DEFINITION OF LONELINESS

A feeling of isolation and lack of connection with others.

The number one cause for unhappiness is loneliness. Almost 50% of people report feeling persistently lonely.  Other physical problems caused by loneliness include anxiety, stroke and heart disease.  Psychologically, dementia and Alzheimer’s are correlated with loneliness.

The first thing to do to combat loneliness is to recognize that it is happening. The symptoms of loneliness include social anxiety, self doubt and low self worth, others do not reciprocate your efforts to connect, feeling of isolation even when with others, no close or best friends, only superficial interactions with others, cravings for physical warmth such as hot drinks and warm blankets and clothing, and feeling sad, surrounded by stuff but not people, gaining weight, frequently sick, constantly checking social media, feeling empty or incomplete when alone.

Some of the causes of loneliness include being from a minority group, substance abuse, depression and bipolar disease, autism, dementia and Alzheimers, sexual orientation issues, narcissistic behaviors (bullying), lack of hygiene, lack of social skills, lack of emotional control.  Some other causes include death of family or friends, moving away from family or friends, a bad reputation, illness or lack of mobility.
